Dear Friends, Dear Colleagues, ICE 2019

I am privileged and honored to have been elected the next President of ISHNE.

First of all, I would like to acknowledge Past President Niraj Varma and the entire 2017-2019 Board of Trustees (BOT) for their immense work during the last 2 years. I receive ISHNE in excellent and thriving condition and I promise on behalf of myself and the 2019-2021 BOT that we will do our best to maintain the same level of activities.

As summarized by Niraj Varma during the ISHNE General Assembly in Belgrade at the International Congress on Electrocardiology (ICE), during the past 2 years, we have increased our visibility and have established a new level of relationship with other societies, which led to joint sessions at several meetings dedicated to the ECG and arrhythmias.

A memorandum of understanding was signed with our sister-society, International Society of Electrocardiology (ISE), and with Heart Rhythm Society (HRS). Thanks to these two documents, we now hold a joint annual ISHNE-ISE Congress on Electrocardiology (ICE), and we held a joint ISHNE-ISE-HRS session at HRS Scientific Sessions. In addition, ISHNE sponsored sessions at Venice Arrhythmias, Asian Pacific Heart Rhythm Society (APHRS) Congress, and European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society (ECAS) Congress. We collaborated with HRS on a consensus document on ambulatory ECG monitoring that was published in 2017. ISHNE’S web-based ECG University attracted over 40,000 visitors.

Therefore, we plan to continue to spare no effort to increase the visibility of our society. Our website is under reconstruction and we would like to remold it into an attractive educational tool. Two new consensus documents in liaison with other ECG/arrhythmia societies are on the way and will be finished soon: one on ECG in Cardiomyopathies and the other on Mobile Health. Additionally, other documents on electrocardiology topics have also been proposed and we will start working on them soon. Shortly, the new version 2 of ECG University, which is focused on ECG interpretation in implantable devices, will be launched.

In the future we would like to increase our educational and research activities even further and go toward national ECG societies from various continents. Primarily, we would like to encourage young investigators, clinicians and students to get involved in our Society’s activities. We assure you that you will always find mentorship here and that this is the right place to initiate international projects.

Therefore, please stay tuned and we will keep informing you on our activities.

Please “Save the date” of our 2020 ICE Congress, which will be held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on June 25-27, 2020, organized by the new President of the ISE, Tom Ribeiro.

Iwona Cygankiewicz, M.D., Ph.D.
President, International Society of Holter and Non-Invasive Electrocardiology (2019-2021)

Dear Friends, ICE 2019

We are eagerly anticipating our Congress in May in Belgrade. The Program Committee has worked diligently to structure an excellent program, assembling a wide range of topics core to ISHNE’s mission. The event also marks the transition of the Presidency.

ICE Congress 2019 ICE 2019

2019 International Congress of Electrocardiology (ICE), the joint meeting of the 45th Congress of the International Society of Electrocardiology (ISE) and the 18th Congress of the International Society for Holter and Noninvasive Electrocardiology (ISHNE) in conjunction with the 11th Congress of Neurocard (SCNS) was held on May 30 - June 1, 2019 in Belgrade, Serbia.

This was the third joint ISHNE-ISE meeting and the first one endorsed by HRS. This meeting created an excellent opportunity to join hundreds of researchers, clinicians, and allied professionals interested in electrocardiology, representing 32 countries from all over the world. During the 3-day event, the participants had an opportunity to attend 36 sessions including over 140 high-quality lectures as well as to discuss numerous poster presentations.

Experts from various continents discussed a wide variety of topics related to diagnostics by means of surface electrocardiography and contemporary techniques for prolonged ECG monitoring. We have moved from traditional techniques toward new digital technologies. Detection of atrial fibrillation, a new epidemic of 21st century, emerged as one of the most widely discussed issues. Naturally, diagnosis leads to treatment. Therefore ECG-based diagnostics is strictly related to current indications for pharmacotherapy and invasive treatment as well as to the assessment of safety and efficacy of such treatment. Hot topics pertaining to cardiac resynchronization and ablation procedures were covered by clinicians involved in this field on a daily basis.

It is important to emphasize that ICE 2019 Congress attracted several talented young investigators, who were encouraged to present the results of their research at Young Investigator Competition (YIC) Session. YIC awards were granted to Cynthia Yeung (Canada), Ivana Kolic (Serbia) and Kentaro Kaneko (Japan)

The first face-to-face meeting of members of the ISE-Young Community, a global network of young trainees, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, took place during ICE meeting. ISHNE granted its Young Investigator Award to Marina Rastović from Serbia, a young talented doctor who is very actively engaged in the research into the autonomic nervous system. We are extremely pleased to see that an increasing number of young scientists take interest in electrocardiology.

ICE not only serves the educational purpose but also provides a forum and a meeting point for the members of both societies. General Assemblies of ISHNE and ISE societies accepted new ISHNE Officers and ISE Council Members. Niraj Varma (ISHNE) and Adrian Baranchuk (ISE) completed their terms as Presidents of the Societies, and Iwona Cygankiewicz and Tom Ribeiro were elected new Presidents of ISHNE and ISE, respectively. ISHNE Senior Award was granted to Sergio Dubner, Past President of ISHNE.

Taking this opportunity we would like to acknowledge Branislav Milovanovic, the President of The Organizing Committee of ICE 2019, for his efforts and commitment related to the organization of this successful event. We truly appreciate his immense work on the arrangement of such an outstanding conference. Last but not least, we would like to thank DEKON group for their engagement in the congress preparation.

ICE 2019 is over but we have already started our preparations toward the next congress, ICE 2010, which will be organized by Tom Ribeiro and will be held in Belo Horizonte (Brazil) on June 25-27th 2020.
